Lake Calumet

Lake Calumet, Chicago's largest body of water, transformed from a postglacial lake into an industrial harbor through 20th-century dredging and landfill. The 1922 Cal-Sag Channel redirected the Calumet River, causing the lake to drain toward the Des Plaines River instead of Lake Michigan.
