New Homegrown Studio Brings Local Artists Together on Pilsen's 18th Street
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Pilsen ·
A new collective retail shop called Homegrown Studio recently opened on Pilsen's 18th Street, bringing together products from 30 local creators and entrepreneurs. The shop at 1011 W. 18th St. opened its doors on September 13, offering a permanent home for local makers in the neighborhood.
Founded by Christina Stelyn, owner of Zin's Flower Shop, and Nikole Bennett, the space serves as both a retail collective and event venue. Vendors have access to an event hall for workshops and a patio that has already hosted events and DJ sets. One artist selling at the shop described it as "a crafts fair without all the walking."
The new venue is already building community through creative events. This weekend, local business Made a Mano by Yesica is hosting a sugar skull workshop, while Nightingale Boulangerie will offer a sourdough bread workshop on October 17, followed by a crystal wire-wrapping workshop by Djinns Treasure on October 18. Residents interested in upcoming events can check the studio's Instagram page for details, and local makers who want to sell their products can apply through their website.
