Irving Park Gears Up for Weekend of Community Events: Schurz Schuffle and Open House Chicago

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Irving Park ·

Irving Park residents are preparing for an action-packed weekend as the neighborhood hosts two major community events this Saturday, October 18.

The annual Schurz Schuffle 5K Fun Run returns to Old Irving Park, starting at 9:00 AM at Carl Schurz High School. Funding raised from this event will support students and teachers at Schurz High School with a variety of activities. This community-focused event isn't timed and will start and end at the high school. Participants can register through the Friends of Schurz website or Eventbrite.

The race coincides with Open House Chicago, which features Schurz High School as a tour site this year. The high school is a rare Prairie-style educational building and is new to the Open House Chicago tour. Other Irving Park locations on the tour include the historic Irving Park YMCA and the Irish American Heritage Center, where visitors can enjoy Guinness drafts served in a former Chicago public school. Open House tours are free and run Saturday and Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to participate in both events to support local education and explore the architectural treasures that make our neighborhood unique. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with neighbors while experiencing the rich cultural heritage of Irving Park!
