First Annual Hyde Park Art Walk to Showcase Local Talent Along 53rd Street
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·
Hyde Park is set to become an open-air gallery next weekend as the neighborhood launches its first-ever Art Walk on October 23-24. The two-day event, spearheaded by the SOPHY Hotel, will connect local South Side artists with six businesses along 53rd Street and Harper Court.
Hotel general manager Michael Falconstein collaborated with South Side artist Paul Branton to curate the lineup, which features works by artists Ravin Smith, Obi Soulstar, Nick Brown, Thomas Williams and Branton himself. Participating venues include Strugglebeard Bakery, Hyatt Place, The Silver Room, Hyde Park Bank, Connect Gallery and Recycled Modern, with each location showcasing a different artist. "Everyone involved appreciates art and appreciates the community," Falconstein noted about the enthusiastic response from local merchants.
The free event runs from 6-9 p.m. both evenings, with attendees encouraged to finish at SOPHY Hotel on Friday night, where all featured artists will gather for a meet-and-greet. Art enthusiasts can start at any location and explore the neighborhood's creative talent while supporting local businesses.
