Roscoe Village Preps for Halloween Block Party as Community Faces Security Challenges

Roscoe Village residents are gearing up for their annual Halloween Block Party, set for Sunday, October 19th on Roscoe Street between Damen and Hoyne Avenues. The festive celebration promises a 'spooktacular day' from noon to 6pm, featuring live music, a drink tent, photo opportunities, and plenty of treats for neighborhood children.
Meanwhile, local business owners remain vigilant following a series of smash-and-grab burglaries that occurred on Wednesday, October 16th. Chicago police issued a warning after five break-ins were reported across North Side neighborhoods including Roscoe Village, Lakeview, Andersonville, and Lincoln Square. The incidents began around 3:30 a.m., with thieves smashing windows, grabbing cash, and fleeing the scene. Despite these challenges, community spirit remains strong as Roscoe Village prepares to shut down part of Roscoe Street for the block party, which will offer trick-or-treating opportunities between local businesses. The free event maintains its reputation as a true neighborhood gathering that encourages everyone to come in costume.
