Humboldt Park Wellness Center Wins Prestigious Chicago Architecture Award, Celebrates Community Health Success

The Humboldt Park Wellness Center has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Healthcare & Research People's Choice Award at the 2025 AIA Chicago Design Excellence Awards ceremony held September 18 at the Harris Theater. The prestigious award, presented by AIA Chicago—the second largest chapter of The American Institute of Architects—honors architectural excellence that transforms communities through visionary design.

Designed by JGMA, the state-of-the-art facility provides essential health and wellness services to residents through its comprehensive amenities including a swimming pool, indoor track, multiple fitness areas, and dedicated community spaces with direct views of Humboldt Park. As one of Chicago's architectural gems of 2025, the center has been praised for its ability to transform the neighborhood while addressing critical health needs in an area traditionally underserved by wellness resources.

"Our community celebrates many ethnicities, and every member of this community will have access to this center. This center represents health equity in action," said José Sánchez, President and CEO of Humboldt Park Health. The $30 million investment addresses significant health disparities in the neighborhood, where diabetes rates are more than three times higher than in many other Chicago neighborhoods. Community members interested in experiencing the award-winning facility can inquire about sliding-scale memberships, which are available to households making less than $70,000 annually.
