Big Star West Town Closing Doors After Three Years on Ogden Avenue
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Town ·
West Town's dining landscape is undergoing a shift as popular taqueria Big Star announced it will close its 551 N. Ogden Avenue location on October 24, 2025, after three years of operation. The restaurant, part of One Off Hospitality's collection of Chicago establishments, made the announcement Tuesday via social media, marking another significant change for the hospitality group that closed its pioneering Violet Hour cocktail bar in Wicker Park this past June.
The closure comes amid a dynamic period for West Town's commercial corridors, with other developments reshaping the neighborhood. Chicago YIMBY recently reported plans for a new five-story mixed-use building at 2121 West Grand Avenue, which will bring 5,900 square feet of retail space and residential units to a currently vacant lot. The Panoptic Group-led project aims to contribute to the ongoing revitalization of Grand Avenue, which local observers note "has really come alive over the past few years."
Residents curious about upcoming neighborhood events can still look forward to several seasonal attractions, including the continued run of Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up in West Town, open through November 2. The pop-up offers festive autumn activities for families and Halloween enthusiasts, providing the perfect opportunity to experience the neighborhood's vibrant community spirit despite the restaurant closure.
