New Pickleball Courts to Open in Kenwood Next Month, First Dedicated Facility on South Side

Chicago's largest indoor pickleball facility is expanding to Kenwood next month, with the first dedicated pickleball courts on the South Side. The new facility, called The Sport House, will open on November 3 at 1301 E. 47th St. through a collaboration between SPF (Social Pickleball Fun) and Toss & Spin, a racket sports facility in Hyde Park. The venue will feature four pickleball courts, two tennis courts, a multi-sport volleyball and basketball area, and a turf field for soccer and baseball.

SPF co-founder Rich Green explained that their goal has always been to "help grow the game" and bring pickleball facilities to people across Chicago's neighborhoods. Since opening its flagship location in Lincoln Park last year, SPF has welcomed 26,000 people through its doors to play pickleball. Green described the facility as "a place that people can not only play pickleball but really come together as a community." According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association's 2025 report, pickleball has been the fastest-growing sport in the United States for the last four years, with nearly 20 million players nationwide. Green noted that the sport brings people together, creating community and benefiting both physical and mental health.

Hyde Park and Kenwood residents interested in trying this rapidly growing sport can mark their calendars for the November 3 opening. Whether you're a seasoned player or complete beginner, The Sport House aims to create an inclusive environment for all skill levels and ages.
