Growing Home's HarvestFest Returns to West Englewood: Urban Farm Celebrates Fall With Community Open House

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood residents are invited to celebrate the fall harvest at Growing Home's HarvestFest and Open House Chicago event this Saturday, October 18, from 1:00 PM at their urban farm located at 1844 W 59th St.

Growing Home, a USDA-Certified Organic urban farm, workforce development center and non-profit social enterprise in Englewood, offers a variety of organic, seasonal produce grown right in the neighborhood. The organization is part of the innovative Englewood Agro-Eco District, the first of its kind in the nation, which transforms vacant lots into urban agriculture zones and green spaces. These initiatives foster local food access, community health and wellness, and business and job development in the area.

Residents attending HarvestFest can explore the urban farm, meet local farmers, and learn about sustainable agriculture practices happening in their own neighborhood. The event coincides with Open House Chicago, providing a unique opportunity to showcase West Englewood's community-driven revitalization through urban farming. Community members interested in local food systems, urban agriculture, or volunteer opportunities are encouraged to attend and connect with Growing Home's staff to learn how they can get involved with this transformative neighborhood resource.
