Quantum Tech Leader Bluefors Expands to Hyde Park Labs, Boosting South Side's Science Hub

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·

Bluefors, a world leader in cryogenic cooling systems for quantum technology, has opened a second Chicago-based lab facility at the UChicago Science Incubator located in Hyde Park Labs. The announcement, made on October 7, marks a significant expansion of quantum technology development resources in Chicago's South Side.

This new facility adds to Hyde Park Labs' growing reputation as a premier science research hub. The 13-story building at 5207 S. Harper Avenue, which officially opened last month, represents the South Side's first commercial, advanced R&D lab building and further strengthens Hyde Park's 53rd Street commercial corridor. The 300,000 square-foot facility houses academic research, science-based companies, and the UChicago Science Incubator.

The Bluefors Lab provides startups, research groups, and other organizations with convenient access to cryogenic measurement systems through a service-based model. According to Raul Vasquez, UChicago Science Incubator Executive Director, the facility offers "access to cryogenic infrastructure and onsite technical expertise" that are "crucial to advancing the translation and scale-up of quantum research and technologies across the ecosystem." These resources significantly lower barriers for early-stage startups interested in quantum innovation. Hyde Park residents and science enthusiasts can contact Bluefors to book time at the lab or arrange tours to learn more about this cutting-edge technology now available in our neighborhood.
