Flan's Glass Illuminates Bucktown With Expanded Stained Glass Studio and Workshop Space

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bucktown ·

Bucktown's creative scene is shining brighter with the expansion of Flan's Glass, a popular stained glass studio now operating from a spacious new location at 2016 W. Armitage Avenue. Owner Flannery Thompson, who quit her software engineering career in January to pursue her artistic passion full-time, has transformed the storefront into a vibrant hub for stained glass enthusiasts of all skill levels.

The new location features a retail space selling wholesale glass pieces, equipment, and supplies, alongside Thompson's original custom creations displayed in the large front window. The back of the shop houses a dedicated workshop area for classes and Thompson's private studio, where she creates original pieces and handles stained glass repairs. Thompson's workshops have proven incredibly popular, often selling out within minutes of being posted online on the first of each month. The move to Bucktown allows her to significantly increase class offerings to Chicago's creative community and curious neighbors.

Beyond scheduled classes, Thompson offers

0 per hour open studio time for workshop graduates, providing access to specialized equipment in a safe environment. "Stained glass is a really expensive hobby, there are a lot of tools that are required, and it requires a safe space to work in when you're working with sharp glass and lead," Thompson explained. "I was building a community space that I wanted to be a part of, that I didn't see in Chicago."
