Local Artist Collective Opens New Studio Space in Portage Park's Six Corners
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Portage Park ·
The Portage Park arts scene is getting a vibrant boost with the opening of 'Cornerstone Studios,' a new collaborative workspace for local artists at the Six Corners shopping district. The studio space, which opened its doors last weekend at 4024 N. Milwaukee Avenue, provides affordable workspace for over a dozen Chicago artists working in various mediums including painting, ceramics, and mixed media.
The project, spearheaded by longtime Portage Park resident and artist Maria Sanchez in partnership with the Six Corners Chamber of Commerce, aims to strengthen the neighborhood's growing reputation as a creative hub. "Portage Park has always had a thriving arts community, but until now we've lacked a central space for collaboration," says Sanchez. The renovated storefront features individual studio spaces, a small gallery for rotating exhibitions, and a classroom area where artists will offer workshops to community members of all ages.
Local residents are invited to attend the studio's first public event, a fall open house on Saturday, October 26th from noon to 6:00 PM, which will feature artist demonstrations, refreshments from local businesses, and a special children's art activity. Chamber of Commerce representatives note that this development complements the ongoing revitalization efforts at Six Corners, helping transform the historic shopping district into a destination for both commerce and culture.
