Novel Pizza Cafe, which opened in Pilsen in June 2024, has become a neighborhood fixture, celebrating over a year of success with its unique fusion of Filipino and Mexican influences. The cafe, founded by Enrique Huizar, Ryan Catolico and Frances Almeda, stands out with its '90s-inspired decor and innovative menu that bridges their cultural heritages.

Located at 1759 W. 19th St., the pizzeria is owned by cousins Francis Almeda and Ryan Catolico along with their friend Enrique Huizar. The menu features both 16-inch tavern-style and 12-inch pan pizzas, with unique offerings ranging from $25-35. Open Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Novel serves coffee all day with pizza service starting at noon. Their signature pizzas include longanisa (Filipino sausage) and giardiniera-topped tavern pies, representing the perfect blend of Filipino and Mexican culinary traditions that masterfully balance sweet, savory, and sour flavors.

Pilsen residents looking for a unique dining experience this weekend should visit Novel Pizza Cafe to try their cultural fusion creations. With its welcoming atmosphere and innovative menu, this neighborhood gem exemplifies how immigrant food traditions continue to shape and enrich Chicago's culinary landscape.
