Oakland Museum and Garden Expands Winter Programming as Community Revitalization Continues
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Oakland ·
The Oakland Museum and Garden, a beloved hidden gem on Lake Park Avenue, announced this week an expansion of its winter programming to engage more residents during the colder months. The garden, which features wooden sculptures carved by the late Oakland resident Milton Mizenburg Jr., will host a series of community art workshops and cultural events starting November 15th.
This initiative comes as Oakland continues its impressive neighborhood revitalization. The small lakefront community has seen significant redevelopment in recent years, with numerous new single-family homes and multi-unit constructions sprouting up throughout its quiet residential streets. "We've seen so much evolution thanks to decades of Black homeowners investing in the area," noted a local real estate agent. "These middle-class families have built equity here, and now there's new construction every day."
Residents are encouraged to visit the Oakland Museum and Garden's new exhibition and participate in the upcoming workshops. The Kenwood Oakland Community Organization, which hosts the popular annual KOCO Fest at Mandrake Park each summer, is partnering with the museum to organize weekly community gatherings throughout the winter. These events will showcase local artists and provide opportunities for neighbors to connect while celebrating Oakland's rich cultural heritage.
