Lightwriters Neon Chicago Celebrates First Anniversary in Ravenswood with Community Exhibition
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Ravenswood ·
Ravenswood's arts corridor is glowing a little brighter as Lightwriters Neon Chicago prepares to celebrate its first anniversary in the neighborhood on Saturday, November 15. The woman-owned and queer-led multi-generational teaching studio will host a special evening celebration from 5-10 PM featuring refreshments, silk screening activities, and live glass demonstrations at their 4222 N. Ravenswood Avenue location.
The celebration will showcase a new gallery exhibition featuring artwork created by community members during the studio's first year in Ravenswood. "This show is something we dreamed up before we even had students in the space, and now it is a special display of how dedicated and engaged our community has become," said Zoelle Nagib, Director of Lightwriters. Attendees are encouraged to bring items for custom silk screening, with hand-dyed t-shirts also available for purchase to benefit a local non-profit.
Founded by Jacob Fishman in 1977, the family-owned studio relocated from suburban Northbrook to Ravenswood earlier last year. "I just love Ravenswood so much because of the arts culture that's already here," Nagib, who is Fishman's daughter, shared about the move. The studio aims to be more than just a business—it was designed as "a community space" where people interested in neon art can learn and practice in a supportive environment. Ravenswood residents are invited to attend this luminous celebration and discover the unique artistic medium that's brightening our neighborhood's creative landscape.
