Archer Heights Residents Shape Neighborhood's Future as 'Moving Archer Forward' Survey Deadline Extended

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Archer Heights ·

The deadline for Archer Heights residents to participate in the Moving Archer Forward Community Survey has been extended to Friday, November 14, 2025, giving neighbors additional time to influence the future development of this vital Southwest Side corridor. The initiative, led by the Chicago Department of Planning and Development, seeks feedback and ideas for improving Archer Avenue, evaluating how the street is currently used, identifying development opportunities supported by rezoning, and exploring ways to support Equitable Transit-Oriented Development near Orange Line stations.

Local resident and transit advocate Dixon Galvez-Searle sees tremendous potential for the area. "There's a lot of potential for Archer Avenue because it's the one street on the Southwest Side that connects all of the neighborhoods in the area," he notes. Galvez-Searle believes the corridor could benefit from following the model of other major Chicago diagonal streets like Milwaukee Avenue, which features more local businesses and recreational amenities. Community feedback gathered so far shows strong interest in more green spaces, housing options, recreational facilities, and social gathering spaces where residents can connect.

The Moving Archer Forward study encompasses the section of Archer Avenue between Halsted Street and Cicero Avenue and is primarily funded through the Regional Transportation Authority's Community Planning Program. This program provides resources to create "sustainable, equitable, walkable and transit-friendly communities." Archer Heights residents and business owners are encouraged to complete the survey online, available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Polish at chicago.gov/archer before the November 14 deadline.
