Beloved Jefferson Park Institution Gale Street Inn Set to Reopen in December Under New Local Owner

The iconic Gale Street Inn restaurant in Jefferson Park is making a much-anticipated comeback this December under new ownership. The 62-year-old neighborhood institution, known for its famous ribs, will reopen its doors at 4914 N. Milwaukee Ave. after abruptly closing in June. Jefferson Park resident Paulo Villabona purchased the restaurant on November 1st and plans to revive this cherished local landmark in early December.
Villabona, who brings 36 years of restaurant industry experience, envisions the Gale Street Inn continuing its legacy as a community gathering spot where "servers know regulars by name and where families gather for important milestones." While preserving customer favorites, particularly the restaurant's famous baby back ribs, he plans to introduce some new menu items and bring back live jazz and blues music. "I want to keep the integrity of what it was, but also open it for a new generation," Villabona explained. The restaurant will initially open for dinner service only, and all existing gift cards will be honored.
The reopening has been welcomed by other Jefferson Park businesses and organizations. Mike Jeffers, general manager of the nearby Copernicus Center and Gateway Theater, expressed his enthusiasm: "It's a great thing for the Gateway Theater and Copernicus Center. With the shows we have coming in and the lounge we have going, it's going to be a great addition because we have somewhere to send everybody in the neighborhood again."
