New McKinley Park High School Welcomes Community at November Open House Event

McKinley Park residents will soon have the opportunity to tour the neighborhood's newest educational institution as Horizon Science Academy - McKinley Park High prepares to welcome families to its official open house. The event, scheduled for Saturday, November 1, from noon to 2 p.m., will showcase the recently opened high school located at 1040 W. 32nd Place.

The new campus, which opened its doors in August 2025 after receiving approval from the Illinois State Board of Education, now serves approximately 400 high school students with a dedicated STEM-focused curriculum. Visitors attending the open house will have the chance to meet teachers and staff, tour the facilities, and learn about the school's college and career preparation programs. The expansion has allowed Horizon to address overcrowding at its original McKinley Park location while creating enhanced opportunities for students in both buildings.

"This is a free school. We offer robotics; we offer international trips to our students, which are experiences that in many public schools they may not be able to attend," shared Spanish teacher Vianty Gonzalez.
