Fillmore Center Laundry Linen Project Reaches 250 Job Milestone on Near West Side

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Near West Side ·

The Fillmore Center Laundry Linen project on Chicago's Near West Side has reached a significant employment milestone this month, now employing over 250 local residents. The facility, which launched in March 2024, has expanded rapidly, with more than 150 new hires since May 2025 as demand continues to grow from Chicago-area hospitals.

Beyond creating jobs, the facility is making a substantial environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through shorter transportation distances. The modern, efficient washers are saving millions of gallons of water each year by reclaiming wastewater. "The Fillmore Center is fulfilling our dual vision of being both a hub for catalytic business development and providing a stable pipeline of qualified local employment," noted a project spokesperson at last week's community update meeting.

The project is part of West Side United's broader Community Food Investment initiative, which builds sustainable economic opportunities throughout Near West Side neighborhoods. "This milestone demonstrates how a business can energize a community while providing essential services to our healthcare partners," said Ayesha Jaco, Executive Director of West Side United. Residents interested in employment opportunities can attend the upcoming job fair on November 18th at the Fillmore Center, where on-site interviews will be conducted for various positions that include comprehensive benefits and professional development support.
