Albany Park's First Nations Garden Hosts Special Native American Heritage Month Events for November 2025

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Albany Park ·

Albany Park's beloved First Nations Garden is celebrating Native American Heritage Month this November with a series of special community events. Located at the corner of Wilson Avenue and Pulaski Road, this unique cultural space has become a vibrant hub for both Chicago's Native community and local residents.

Visitors to the garden this month can participate in free beadwork classes, traditional storytelling sessions in the recently renovated wigwam, and environmental education workshops focused on indigenous farming practices. "The garden is a place where the community knows they can come and ask questions about the native people still living here in Chicago, practicing their culture," explains Janie Pochel, one of the garden's leaders. The space features raised garden beds, traditional structures, and educational exhibits that showcase indigenous relationships with the land.

Community members interested in participating in upcoming events or volunteering can follow the First Nations Garden on Instagram @firstnationsgarden for the latest updates. The garden hosts regular work days every other Saturday where volunteers can help with seasonal maintenance while learning about native plants and traditional ecological knowledge. As winter approaches, the garden is introducing new indoor cultural programming that will continue through the colder months.
