Pilsen Merchants Transform 18th Street with First-Ever Dia de Los Muertos Window Walk

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Pilsen ·

Pilsen's vibrant 18th Street commercial corridor has been transformed into a spectacular cultural showcase as the Pilsen Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Benito Juarez Community Academy and Pilarte, launched their first-ever Dia De Los Muertos Window Walk. The colorful exhibition, which began on November 8, stretches along 18th Street from number 1806 to 971, featuring elaborately decorated storefronts that celebrate the rich traditions of this important Mexican holiday.

Local businesses along the corridor have embraced the initiative, with shop owners working alongside student artists to create stunning window displays featuring traditional elements like papel picado (decorative paper), marigolds, and artistic representations of calaveras (skulls). The free community event has already drawn visitors from across Chicago who are enjoying the self-guided tour of these creative installations while supporting local merchants. According to organizers, the Window Walk will continue daily until November 29, giving residents and visitors nearly three weeks to experience this cultural celebration.

Pilsen residents are encouraged to support participating businesses by visiting the displays and sharing photos on social media with the hashtag #PilsenWindowWalk. For more information about this and other upcoming neighborhood events, visit the Pilsen Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page or stop by their office on 18th Street.
