Palmer Square Residents Invited to Shape New Crosstown Trail Project and Park Safety Improvements

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Palmer Square ·

Palmer Square residents have a unique opportunity to influence two major neighborhood infrastructure initiatives this November. The Northwest Neighborhood Alliance and Strong Towns Chicago have launched a traffic safety survey for Palmer Square Park, collecting feedback to demonstrate community support for improving the roads surrounding the park. According to the Tiny Lil Actions Chicago newsletter, this data will be presented to elected officials to advocate for creating safer streets in the area.

Concurrently, the 26th ward is hosting a virtual town hall on Thursday, November 13, to discuss the proposed Crosstown Trail project. This ambitious initiative would transform an underused rail line into a multi-use pedestrian and biking trail connecting multiple Chicago neighborhoods. The proposed trail would link to the Bloomingdale Trail (The 606) and the Weber Spur Trail, potentially creating a comprehensive network of green pathways accessible to Palmer Square residents.

Community members interested in shaping the neighborhood's future are encouraged to complete the Palmer Square traffic safety survey online and register for the November 13 virtual town hall. Both initiatives align with Palmer Square's recent designation as Chicago's first arboretum, furthering the neighborhood's commitment to green spaces and sustainable transportation alternatives.
