Edgewater's Bryn Mawr Avenue Celebrates Vibrant Commercial Renaissance

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·

Bryn Mawr Avenue, once a premier business corridor in Edgewater, is experiencing a remarkable renaissance after facing significant challenges during the pandemic years. The historic retail district, which stretches from Sheridan Road to Broadway, is showing impressive signs of revitalization with several new businesses breathing life into previously vacant storefronts.

Among the success stories is Edgewater Candles, a locally-owned business that chose Bryn Mawr Avenue over more established commercial areas like Clark Street in Andersonville. "We really wanted to make an impact," shared Mark Towns, co-owner of Edgewater Candles, who opened their brick-and-mortar store at 1050 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in 2022. "We thought, 'Maybe we could be one less papered-over window.'" Their commitment to the neighborhood exemplifies the growing community investment in this historic corridor.

The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in supporting this revival through innovative community programming. Recent initiatives have included holiday pop-up shops in the historic Belle Shore Apartments building, Winter Bryn Mawrkets, and a summer Bryn Mawrket showcasing young artists and entrepreneurs. The Chamber continues its work supporting existing businesses with door-to-door engagement and beautification efforts, including new murals and holiday decorations that enhance the corridor's appeal. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to explore these new businesses and participate in upcoming community events that celebrate Edgewater's commercial revitalization.
