West Pullman's $200 Million Commercial Corridor Revitalization Moves Forward for 2026
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents have a major revitalization to look forward to as the Far South Community Development Corporation advances its ambitious $200 million investment targeting the commercial corridor at 115th and Halsted streets. The nonprofit organization is working to create lasting change in the neighborhood with plans for a 12-acre, 258-unit mixed-use development project designed to transform the area into a more walkable community with expanded housing options.
"We haven't really invested a lot in affordable housing, and that's what's going to keep people here," said Abraham Lacy, president of the Far South Community Development Corporation. The vision includes residents enjoying a two-and-a-half-acre park while having convenient access to restaurants and retail facilities at ground level. The development will also feature 16,000 square feet of new retail space and a 13,000-square-foot performing arts and culinary arts center. According to Lacy, the organization hopes to start phase one of the project next year, with teams currently "working with the city and working with the alderman to try to make this happen."
Community members interested in learning more about the development can attend upcoming neighborhood meetings where representatives will share additional details about the project and plans for redevelopment of the Maple Park Marketplace shopping plaza and the adjacent Walgreens at 115th and Halsted streets, which are also part of the organization's vision for revitalizing the area.
