Historic Burnham Building in Jackson Park Set for Multimillion-Dollar Restoration in 2026

A century-old architectural treasure in Jackson Park will soon receive a new lease on life, as the Chicago Park District announced plans for a multimillion-dollar restoration of the historic Burnham Building. The renovation project, revealed at Monday's Jackson Park Advisory Council meeting, is slated to begin as early as next spring, bringing renewed vitality to this long-neglected landmark.

The Burnham Building, designed by Daniel Burnham's architecture firm in 1912, resembles a Greek temple and offers stunning views of both Lake Michigan and the Jackson Park Golf Course. The open-air pavilion has suffered from deterioration over the decades, but this comprehensive restoration promises to transform what local resident Carol Adams described as "an eyesore in the community" into a revitalized public space for Hyde Park residents and visitors alike.

The timing of this announcement coincides with preparations for the upcoming Obama Presidential Center, which will draw increased attention to Jackson Park when it opens next year. Hyde Park residents interested in learning more about the restoration plans can attend future Jackson Park Advisory Council meetings, which are open to the public, or contact the Chicago Park District for additional details.
