Aldi Grocery Store to Anchor New West Loop Development as Construction Begins Early 2025

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Loop ·

The West Loop is preparing to welcome its first Aldi grocery store, set to open in 2026 as the anchor tenant of a 380-unit apartment building on West Jackson Boulevard. Developer Mavrek has announced plans to begin construction on this transformative project in the first quarter of 2025.

The discount grocery chain has signed a lease for nearly 22,000 square feet at 1016 W. Jackson, at the intersection with Morgan Street. The development addresses a growing need for convenient shopping options in this rapidly expanding area, which has seen more than 2,000 apartments either recently completed or currently under construction. The location is also strategically positioned near the Illinois Medical District and University of Illinois Chicago, making it accessible to both West Loop residents and the surrounding communities.

Designed by Eckenhoff Saunders, the 25-story development will rise 275 feet and include 76 affordable apartments among its 380 total units. The project will also feature 163 parking spaces and 380 bike parking spots, supporting the neighborhood's cycling-friendly culture. Residents interested in following the development's progress can attend upcoming community meetings hosted by the West Central Association or Neighbors of West Loop for updates on this and other exciting neighborhood projects.
