History enthusiasts and architecture buffs in Edgewater have a special event to look forward to this weekend. This Saturday, November 15, the Edgewater Historical Society will host authors Robert Loerzel and James A. Pierce for a presentation on their new book about the historic Uptown Theatre at the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library.
The authors will discuss 'The Uptown,' which chronicles the fascinating history of this magnificent theater that has sat vacant for over 40 years. Through original records and firsthand accounts, the book explores the theater's significance to the changing neighborhood and broader cultural landscape. The presentation will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Betty A. Barclay Community Room at 6000 N. Broadway.
This event comes as part of the Historical Society's ongoing effort to celebrate Edgewater's rich architectural heritage, following their recent programs highlighting Broadway's architectural treasures. Residents interested in local history, architecture, or the cultural significance of Chicago's historic venues are encouraged to attend this free community event. For more information about this and other upcoming programs, visit the Edgewater Historical Society website or stop by their museum at 5358 N. Ashland Ave, open weekends from 1-4 p.m.
