Graceland West Completes Final Pollinator Pathway Garden for 2025 Season
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Graceland West ·
The Graceland West Community Association (GWCA) has completed their eighth Native Plant Pollinator Pathway and Stormwater Absorption site, marking a successful conclusion to their 2025 ecological expansion efforts. The neighborhood initiative, which has already garnered recognition with an Honorable Mention from the Chicago Excellence in Gardening Awards, continues to transform street corners throughout the community into vibrant ecological spaces.
Each carefully designed installation serves multiple environmental purposes – absorbing approximately 2,000 gallons of stormwater annually while creating crucial habitat for native pollinators. The ECO-Green Committee, established in 2014 as a partnership between GWCA, Lake View High School, and Warner Park and Gardens, has been instrumental in addressing climate change challenges, stormwater management, and neighborhood flooding through these green infrastructure projects. The initiative aligns perfectly with Chicago's 2025 gardening trends that emphasize buying from local growers to reduce transportation emissions and choosing native plants that enhance biodiversity while requiring less water and maintenance.

The association is actively seeking volunteers for upcoming sustainability initiatives, including their spring planting events. Additionally, the Chicago Excellence in Gardening Awards program is set to resume in 2025 after a one-year hiatus, offering Graceland West gardeners another opportunity to showcase their environmental stewardship.
