McKinley Park to Host Planning Meeting for Chicago's 189th Birthday Celebration

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Mckinley Park ·

McKinley Park residents are gearing up to celebrate the city's history with the first planning meeting for Chicago's 189th Birthday Party scheduled for Saturday, October 18, at 10 a.m. The meeting will take place at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, located at 3658 S. Honore Street, right next to the Geographic Center of Chicago sign. This collaborative effort already includes committed organizations such as the McKinley Park Civic Association, Omega Delta Youth Baseball & Softball League, Horizon Science Academy, Tu Casa Guanajuato, and Rio Event Studios.

The upcoming celebration marks the third consecutive year McKinley Park will host this free, volunteer-run community event at the geographic center of Chicago. Last year's celebration brought together dozens of local organizations, schools, elected officials, and individuals who contributed to the event's success. Participants sang "Happy Birthday" to Chicago in multiple languages, reflecting the city's rich cultural diversity. The gathering not only provides acknowledgment and promotion for participating organizations but also creates valuable opportunities for community members to connect with each other.

Community members interested in joining this growing tradition are encouraged to attend the October 18th planning meeting or contact the organizers at [email protected]. The event welcomes involvement from local groups and neighbors who wish to participate in this celebration that strengthens community bonds while honoring Chicago's historical legacy.
