Oakland Community Celebrates New Electric Vehicle Charging Station at Mandrake Park
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Oakland ·
Family Laundry recently introduced new solar-powered electric delivery vans to the Oakland neighborhood, sharing their charging infrastructure with Community Kitchens to support local food access initiatives. This eco-friendly partnership, announced on November 7, 2025, marks a significant sustainability milestone for Chicago's South Side.
The charging station is strategically located near Mandrake Park, a community hub that regularly hosts special events including gym showcases and movie screenings throughout the year. The park, known for its athletic track and beautifully maintained grounds, has become increasingly central to Oakland's ongoing revitalization. This development aligns with Oakland's broader renaissance as the historic South Side community continues its strong comeback. Many of the neighborhood's quiet residential streets now feature newly built single-family homes and multi-unit constructions with manicured lawns, part of an ambitious revitalization effort spearheaded by enthusiastic local organizations and community centers.
The neighborhood's housing market reflects this positive momentum, with the median home sale price in Oakland reaching $360,000 over the past 12 months—a 7% increase from the previous year. Residents are encouraged to visit the new charging station and learn how this green infrastructure investment supports both local businesses and environmental sustainability. The Mandrake Park Advisory Council will discuss further community-centered initiatives at their next meeting, scheduled for November 25 at 6:30 p.m.
