Lakefront Sauna Experience Coming to Hyde Park's 57th Street Beach This Winter

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·

A Hyde Park woman is bringing a unique Nordic-inspired wellness experience to the neighborhood this winter with plans for a wood-fired lakefront sauna at 57th Street Beach. The mobile sauna, which is awaiting final approval from the Chicago Park District, aims to provide both relaxation and health benefits to residents, including seniors and athletes who often use saunas for muscle recovery and pain relief.

The facility will operate Wednesday through Friday mornings from 6 a.m. to noon when it opens in early 2026, with additional Wednesday evening hours and private sessions available on weekends. At $20 for a 30-minute session, the owner aims to keep the experience accessible to all community members. The thoughtfully designed structure will feature three windows overlooking Lake Michigan, the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, and Hyde Park, plus a vestibule area for storing belongings. Most visitors are expected to arrive wearing swimsuits under their clothes for convenience.

The entrepreneur behind this venture is also exploring potential collaborations with other Hyde Park businesses and organizations. Thanks to the sauna's mobile trailer design, it could potentially be featured at local festivals or partnered with neighborhood wellness businesses like Blue City Strength & Conditioning on Blackstone Avenue. Community members interested in this unique winter wellness option can look forward to more details as the final approval process concludes with the Chicago Park District.
