Rogers Park Gateway Transforms into Pollinator Paradise with New 'Bee Hotel'
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Rogers Park ·
Rogers Park residents will soon enjoy a vibrant new green space as Loyola University completes a significant transformation of the neighborhood's iconic gateway garden. The triangular lot at Sheridan Road, Devon Avenue and Broadway—known for its large 'Welcome to Rogers Park' sign—is undergoing an ecological makeover that will feature pollinator-friendly plants and a unique 'bee hotel' designed to support native solitary bees and enhance local biodiversity.
The revitalization project, a collaboration between Loyola University and the city, represents more than just beautification. 'This project is a testament to what's possible when institutions and city agencies work together to respond to community voices and reimagine shared spaces,' according to university officials. The garden, positioned at a key intersection welcoming visitors to both the university campus and Rogers Park neighborhood, is expected to be fully completed by the end of November, creating a vibrant ecosystem at one of the community's most visible locations.
Residents interested in learning more about the garden's transformation or volunteering for future plantings can contact Loyola's Department of Campus Environmental Sustainability. The project also presents educational opportunities for neighborhood schools and community groups to learn about native pollinators and their crucial role in urban ecosystems.
