West Rogers Park Welcomes New Cultural District with First-Ever Día de los Muertos Celebration

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Rogers Park ·

West Rogers Park is celebrating the recent designation of Camino Clark as an official Mexican Cultural District with the neighborhood's first community-wide Día de los Muertos celebration on November 1-2, 2025. The vibrant cultural corridor along Clark Street, stretching from Howard Street to Devon Avenue, has been recognized by the state for its rich Mexican heritage and cultural significance.

The event, organized by the nonprofit Rogers Park Business Alliance (RPBA), features a community altar displaying photos contributed by neighbors to honor loved ones who have passed. Local businesses along Camino Clark will offer special Día de los Muertos promotions to mark the occasion. The Mexican holiday traditionally honors deceased loved ones with ofrendas—altars decorated with photographs, memories, and offerings. The cultural district is guided by an advisory council of stakeholders and Colectivo Clark, a collective of local Latine business owners who organize events to celebrate the district and empower small businesses.

West Rogers Park residents interested in participating can contribute photos of deceased loved ones at the GROW/PROGRESANDO Center at 7056 N. Clark Street or visit participating businesses during the celebration. This event highlights the remarkable diversity of West Rogers Park, home to residents representing more than 60 different nationalities, and reinforces its status as one of Chicago's most culturally vibrant districts.
