West Pullman's Community Garden Initiative Expands with Fall Harvest Festival Planned for November
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents are celebrating the expansion of the neighborhood's community gardening network as part of the Roseland-Pullman Urban Agriculture and Community Garden Network's fall initiatives. The organization has announced plans for a special Harvest Festival on November 22, 2025, showcasing the bounty from the neighborhood's growing number of community gardens.
This expansion builds on West Pullman's reputation for innovative green spaces, with the nonprofit Far South Community Development Corporation continuing to support these environmental initiatives as part of their broader vision for the community. "There's someone planning for something greater," said Abraham Lacy, president of the Far South Community Development Corporation, who sees the garden network as complementing their other development plans for the area. The community gardens also connect with West Pullman's other green initiatives, including the 10-megawatt Exelon City Solar installation on a 41-acre brownfield—the nation's largest urban solar plant—and the Method soap factory's renewable energy systems. The organization continues to pass eco-friendly values to the next generation by inviting local children to learn about growing their own food.
Residents interested in participating in the expanded community garden network can attend an information session at the West Pullman Park fieldhouse on Saturday, November 15 at 10:00 AM, where organizers will share details about available plots for the 2026 growing season and volunteer opportunities for the Harvest Festival celebration.
