Englewood Village Market Announces Winter Bazaar for November: Plaza Transforms into Holiday Hub

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

The Englewood Village Plaza, once a vacant lot at the southwest corner of 58th and Halsted Streets, continues its transformation into a vital community gathering space with the announcement of a special Winter Bazaar scheduled for late November. The Plaza, which serves as both the entry point to the Englewood Nature Trail and home to the popular Englewood Village Market, has become a symbol of community revitalization in West Englewood.

The Winter Bazaar will showcase Englewood Village Farms (EVF), a network of urban farms led by Black and Brown farmers including Cedillo's Fresh Produce, DuSable City Botanical Farms, Getting Grown Collective, and Sistas in the Village. These local agricultural entrepreneurs are building a sustainable food system along the 59th Street corridor, bringing fresh produce to an area previously lacking in healthy food options. Visitors to the Winter Bazaar can expect low-cost fresh produce, prepared foods, and handcrafted goods from local businesses, alongside community resources, health workshops, and cultural performances. Special holiday activities will include face painting for children and live DJ sets, creating a festive atmosphere for all ages.

The market's success reflects the broader vision of the Englewood Agro-Eco District, the first of its kind in the nation, which transforms vacant lots into productive green spaces. This innovative approach fosters local food access, improves community health, and creates business and job development opportunities for residents. Community members interested in supporting local vendors or learning more about winter urban farming are encouraged to follow Grow Greater Englewood's social media for upcoming details about the Winter Bazaar event.
