Garfield Ridge Selected for 'Moving Archer Forward' City Initiative with New Streetscape Improvements

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

Garfield Ridge residents will soon see enhancements along Archer Avenue as the neighborhood has been included in Chicago's 'Moving Archer Forward' initiative. The Department of Planning and Development recently announced the program, which aims to revitalize commercial corridors in Garfield Ridge, Archer Heights, Bridgeport, Brighton Park, and McKinley Park with streetscape improvements and business development support.

The initiative comes as the Garfield Ridge Farmers Market completes a successful 2025 season, having drawn more than two dozen local vendors each week to its location at 6401 W. Narragansett Ave. Local business owner Kathleen Murphy of 2nd City Nurse Candles expressed her appreciation for the community support, while Maria Rodriguez of Freedom Lei State of Mind called the market "one of the most organized" events that "offers an incredible amount of support for small businesses within the community."

Residents interested in learning more about the Moving Archer Forward initiative or providing input on desired improvements can attend the next Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch meeting, where community leaders will discuss implementation plans for the coming months. The GRNW continues its 17-year tradition of fostering community connections through regular events and meetings.
