Ravenswood's Damen-Leland Corner Set to Transform with New Community Mural This Month

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Ravenswood ·

A vibrant new public art installation is coming to the heart of Ravenswood as the neighborhood prepares to welcome a new mural at the intersection of Damen and Leland avenues. The project aims to enhance connections between local artists and residents, showcase community creativity, and encourage use of the popular Damen Leland People Space.

The south-facing brick exterior of Foremost Cleaners will serve as the canvas for this neighborhood beautification effort. The site is adjacent to the Damen and Leland People Space, a well-loved spot where neighbors frequently gather for outdoor dining, coffee-sipping, and relaxation. The Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and Special Service Area #31 are leading this initiative with a total project budget of $5,000 covering artist fees, supplies, permits, and travel expenses. The new artwork continues Ravenswood's tradition of incorporating public art into community spaces, following the successful relocation of the "Community" mosaic planter from this same corner to its new home near the renovated Ravenswood Metra station.

Residents interested in supporting this latest addition to Ravenswood's growing collection of public art are encouraged to follow the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce on social media for updates on the installation timeline and any community celebrations planned to commemorate the completed mural.
