Bucktown's Car-Free 'Meet Me On Milwaukee' Street Events Confirmed for 2026 Return After Successful Season

Bucktown residents and business owners are celebrating the announcement that the popular 'Meet Me On Milwaukee' pedestrianization events will return in 2026 following a highly successful 2025 season. The initiative, which transformed Milwaukee Avenue into a vibrant car-free corridor for one Sunday each month from August through October, brought thousands of additional visitors to the neighborhood according to Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce director Pamela Maass.

The collaborative program between Ald. Daniel La Spata (1st) and the Chamber temporarily closed a 0.7-mile stretch of Milwaukee Avenue between the North/Damen intersection and Ashland Avenue, creating a pedestrian paradise filled with sidewalk sales, live music, and community activities. The October finale doubled as a Halloween celebration, featuring trick-or-treating, costumes, and seasonal festivities alongside the Wicker Park Farmers Market's season closing. More than 60 local businesses participated in the events, with many reporting increased foot traffic and sales during what would typically be quieter Sundays.

"This is a testament to how our economy can continue to grow and thrive by promoting local businesses and creating spaces where we're intentional about attracting consumers to our communities," Mayor Brandon Johnson remarked during a visit to the August event. Bucktown neighbors interested in getting involved with next year's expanded program can watch for volunteer opportunities through the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce website.
