Ravenswood Letter Carrier Creates Historic Postal Exhibit to Celebrate USPS's 250th Anniversary

A piece of American history is now on permanent display in Ravenswood as local letter carrier Kalani Han has created a unique postal history exhibit at the neighborhood's Post Office on Lawrence Avenue. The exhibit, which features rare objects dating back to the 1870s, was installed in the retail lobby as part of the celebration leading up to the United States Postal Service's 250th anniversary in July.

Han, known for his dedication to postal tradition and distinctive professional style, designed the exhibit to "connect people — past to present, neighbors to neighborhood, and national history to the everyday work we do as carriers." The display includes a special pictorial postmark featuring a raven, larch branch, and oak leaf—symbols representing Ravenswood's natural history and namesake. The timing coincides with the facility's ZIP Code Day (when the local ZIP Code, 60625, matches the calendar date), making it a doubly significant postal celebration for the community.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Ravenswood Post Office at 2522 W. Lawrence Avenue to view the historical collection and learn more about the neighborhood's postal heritage. Collectors can also obtain the commemorative postmark, adding a unique Ravenswood keepsake to their collections while celebrating this connection between national and neighborhood history.
