By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Streeterville ·
Streeterville residents and visitors are preparing for one of Chicago's most beloved holiday traditions as the 34th Annual Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival returns on Saturday, November 22. Under the theme "Chicago Shines Bright," this year's celebration promises an expanded lineup of family-friendly activities and performances throughout the neighborhood.
The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with Lights Festival Lane at Pioneer Court (401 N. Michigan Avenue), offering free activities including photos with Santa, cheesecake decorating with Eli's Cheesecake, and performances by the renowned Voices of Liberty from EPCOT. Chicago's own GRAMMY-nominated Plain White T's will perform a free concert at 1 p.m., while DJ White Shadow will debut a Chicago-themed float during the evening parade. The celebration culminates at 5:30 p.m. when Mickey and Minnie Mouse lead the illumination procession down Michigan Avenue, lighting one million lights on over 200 trees, followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the Chicago River at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Local businesses throughout Streeterville are preparing special offers to welcome the nearly one million visitors expected to attend. Residents are encouraged to arrive early, dress warmly (perhaps in a festive holiday sweater), and use public transportation, as street closures will begin as early as 3 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the festivities will air on ABC7 Chicago on Sunday, November 23 at 6 p.m.
