New YMCA Wellness Village Nears Completion in Garfield Ridge Area
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·
Garfield Ridge residents will soon have access to expanded community resources as the YMCA of Metro Chicago's Wellness Village project approaches its scheduled completion. With final construction phases underway, the organization expects to open the doors of the new facility in late 2025. Upon completion, the Wellness Village will feature comprehensive community services including primary care, drop-in childcare, youth enrichment programs, fitness facilities, mental health services, workforce development resources, a business incubator, a community-led credit union, and a community-owned grocery store.
The project, which received funding through the prestigious Chicago Prize awarded by the Pritzker Traubert Foundation, represents a significant investment in community infrastructure. The YMCA describes the initiative as a "collaborative, community-led initiative that will create trusted, safe, comfortable, culturally empowering spaces and services" for residents. This development is part of the YMCA's broader commitment to establish a presence in every Chicago community area, with plans to increase their annual impact from serving 300,000 individuals to more than 1,000,000 across the region. Garfield Ridge residents interested in learning more about membership options or community programs can visit the YMCA website for pre-opening information and upcoming community events.
