Earle Apartments Nears Completion: Historic School Transformation to Welcome Residents in November 2025

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood residents will soon have a new affordable housing option as the much-anticipated Earle Apartments prepares to welcome its first residents this November. The $33.5 million development, which transforms the long-vacant Charles Warrington Earle School at 6121 S. Hermitage Ave., represents a significant investment in the neighborhood's revitalization.

The adaptive reuse project will create 50 affordable apartments within the historic building, preserving an architectural landmark while addressing community housing needs. Developed by Gorman & Company, the complex will feature 30 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom units, alongside amenities including a computer lab, fitness center, community room, and bike storage. The Phoenix Foundation will provide on-site supportive services for residents, further enhancing the development's community impact.

"Projects like this bring back hope," said Ron Clewer, Illinois market president at Gorman & Company. "The community knows they're worthy of this." Residents interested in leasing information can attend upcoming information sessions at the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation or join the property's interest list through Gorman & Company's website.
