Englewood Nature Trail Project Advances with November Public Hearing Success
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents showed strong support for the Englewood Nature Trail at a public hearing held on November 15, marking a significant milestone for the transformative community project. The hearing provided an opportunity for community members to review plans and offer input that will help set the framework for the 2-mile linear park.
The Englewood Nature Trail will transform a vacated rail corridor from Wallace Street to Hoyne Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets into a naturalized space for residents to enjoy and connect with nature. The trail will serve as a connector between Englewood's growing network of urban farms and gardens, fostering local food access, health and wellness, business development, and employment within the neighborhood. As the centerpiece of the innovative Englewood Agro-Eco District, the first of its kind in the nation, the trail aims to improve both the environment and local economy by attracting industry and entrepreneurs to this unique corridor that sits between two of the nation's largest railroads.
West Englewood residents interested in getting involved can review the November 15 presentation on the Grow Greater Englewood website and provide their feedback to help shape this community-driven initiative. With construction expected to begin in Summer 2026, the project represents a significant investment in West Englewood's future as a hub for urban agriculture, green space, and community wellness.
