Northwest Neighborhood Alliance Champions Improved Transit Access in West Town
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Town ·
A newly formed community group called the Northwest Neighborhood Alliance is making waves in West Town as it advocates for transit and housing issues affecting residents in Logan Square, West Town, and Humboldt Park. The organization has recently launched an online petition supporting the Chicago Department of Transportation's Complete Streets project on Grand Avenue, which aims to create safer streets for all users.
Since 2023, the city has been overseeing a two-part overhaul of Grand Avenue between Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park and Ogden Avenue in West Town. The changes include adding protected concrete bike lanes and bus islands, installing raised sidewalks along intersecting streets, and lowering speed limits. According to Alliance co-founder Sam Kovnar, while construction may temporarily affect businesses, the project will ultimately attract more cyclists and non-drivers to the area, potentially increasing business for local establishments.
West Town residents interested in learning more about the Northwest Neighborhood Alliance's initiatives can find their petition online or attend upcoming community meetings where transportation improvements will be discussed. The organization welcomes new members who share their vision of creating more accessible and vibrant neighborhoods for all residents.
