Englewood Connect Food Hub Nears November Debut: Historic Firehouse Transformation to Become West Englewood's Culinary Centerpiece
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents will soon have a vibrant new community gathering space as the highly anticipated Englewood Connect food hub prepares for its November 2025 debut. The
The adaptive reuse project transforms the Tudor-style firehouse, built in 1929, into a 9,000-square-foot culinary center and business incubator that will serve as a commercial kitchen and event space in the heart of the neighborhood. The development features a landscaped public plaza that will host community activities and special events, creating a centralized gathering hub for West Englewood residents. Another major element, known as the Englewood Living Room, will be a pavilion with operable doors and windows that will serve as an all-weather space for exhibitions, coworking spaces, public markets, and community gatherings.
The project creates exciting food-related synergies with the Washburn Culinary and Hospitality Institute at nearby Kennedy-King College, multiple urban farms within Englewood's urban agriculture district, and the Englewood Square shopping center. Residents interested in culinary entrepreneurship, food business development, or simply connecting with neighbors in a welcoming space are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for late November. Community members can follow the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation's social media channels for upcoming announcements about opening events and programming opportunities.
