Edgewater Approves Major Broadway Development Plan to Expand Housing Near CTA Red Line
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·
Edgewater residents will soon see new residential growth along Broadway as a key City Council committee has advanced proposals designed to build more housing along the commercial corridor. The plan, approved by the City Council's Zoning and Building Standards Committee, aims to revitalize Broadway while making living near the recently modernized CTA Red Line more affordable.
Alderperson Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth of the 48th Ward emphasized that the proposals will breathe new life into Broadway's west side, which hasn't seen new housing construction in two decades. "Let's try something different," Manaa-Hoppenworth stated, noting that increasing residential density will create safer communities with "more eyes on the street" while enriching the area's culture and adding diversity. In related development news, small business owners looking to improve their properties can apply for Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) grants in the Hollywood/Sheridan TIF district, with applications opening December 1 through December 30. Residents interested in learning more about these transformative changes can attend upcoming community meetings where detailed plans will be presented.
