Palmer Square Residents Invited to Shape Future of Crosstown Trail in Virtual Town Hall

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Palmer Square ·

Palmer Square residents have an exciting opportunity to influence a transformative neighborhood project this month. The 26th ward will host a virtual town hall on Thursday, November 13, focused on the proposed Crosstown Trail, which would connect multiple Chicago neighborhoods through a multi-use pedestrian and biking pathway.

The ambitious project would transform an underused rail corridor into a 3.2-mile trail stretching from near West Montrose and North Knox avenues in the north to near West Cortland Street and North Kilbourn Avenue in the south. According to information shared by the Tiny Lil Actions Chicago newsletter, the trail would potentially link to the Bloomingdale Trail (The 606) and create a comprehensive network of green pathways accessible to Palmer Square residents. The Bloomingdale Trail, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in June, has already seen more than 10 million users, demonstrating the community value such infrastructure can provide.

Palmer Square residents interested in shaping the future of neighborhood green space and sustainable transportation are encouraged to participate in the virtual town hall. This project aligns with the community's recent achievements in environmental stewardship, following Palmer Square Park's designation as Chicago's first arboretum. Community members can learn more about the town hall and register to participate through the 26th ward office.
