Washington Park Framework Plan to Be Unveiled at Chicago Park District's Budget Presentation on November 20
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park residents will soon get a glimpse of the neighborhood's future as the Chicago Park District prepares to present the highly anticipated Washington Park Framework Plan during its 2025 budget presentation on November 20. This comprehensive plan, which has been in development since 2022, will serve as a guiding document for improvements to the historic 367-acre greenspace over the next two decades.
Led by woman-owned MUSE Community + Design and Black-owned Rudd Resources, the framework plan has incorporated extensive community feedback to create a vision that respects both the historic integrity of the park and evolving neighborhood needs. The award-winning landscape architecture team at Hitchcock Design Group has developed technical designs addressing several key areas including enhanced athletic facilities, improved bike networks, restored natural areas, and the potential reopening of Bynum Island. The plan aligns with the Chicago Park District's commitment to equitable distribution of resources, with 50% of its capital budget dedicated to historically disinvested communities.
Community members interested in learning more about the Framework Plan can attend the Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, November 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Chicago Park District Administration Building, located at 4830 S. Western Avenue. The complete budget recommendations will also be available for viewing on the Chicago Park District's website. Residents are encouraged to participate in this historic opportunity to shape the future of one of Chicago's most treasured greenspaces.
