South Loop Residents Prepare for Holiday Magic as Millennium Park's Tree Lighting Approaches

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·

South Loop residents are gearing up for one of Chicago's most beloved holiday traditions as the city's official Christmas tree will be illuminated on Friday, November 21, at 6 p.m. in Millennium Park. The celebration, taking place at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street, will feature multiple viewing areas throughout the park, complete with giant screens, seasonal treats, and a vibrant main stage along Washington Street. The magical evening will culminate with the tree lighting followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events has planned a festive pre-show beginning at 5 p.m., leading to the highly anticipated tree lighting at approximately 6:25 p.m. This year's Christmas tree is a generous gift from Ryan and Jody Mason of Glenview, Illinois, who donated their towering 68-foot Norway spruce to the City of Chicago. The magnificent tree, decorated with approximately 39,250 feet of glimmering lights, will remain on display in Millennium Park until Sunday, January 11, 2026. The tree lighting will also kick off the Millennium Park Holiday Market, presented by Allstate, which will run through Sunday, November 23. South Loop residents are encouraged to take public transportation to the event, as large crowds are expected for this cherished Chicago tradition.
