Legends South A3 Breaks Ground: New Mixed-Income Housing Revitalizes Historic Bronzeville Corner

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·

A significant milestone in Bronzeville's ongoing revitalization took place this week with the groundbreaking of Legends South A3, a new mixed-income housing development at 4520 S. State Street. The project, a partnership between the Chicago Housing Authority and The Michaels Organization, will deliver 42 affordable units and 10 market-rate units on the former site of the Robert Taylor Homes, marking the third residential project to rise on the CHA-owned land as part of a long-term redevelopment effort.

The development includes a four-story, elevator-equipped building with 40 apartments and a three-story walk-up with 12 apartments. Beyond housing, residents will benefit from 3,500 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and a new public plaza at State and 45th streets. "This development will bring more units of affordable housing to our community to ensure that families can stay together in Bronzeville and enjoy the growth we are experiencing in this historic community," said local officials at the groundbreaking ceremony. After decades of disinvestment and a shrinking population, Bronzeville has seen solid growth in recent years, with people making the move in search of more affordable real estate. As the neighborhood rebounds, development projects like Legends South A3 are helping to restore the area's vibrancy.

Residents interested in learning more about the housing opportunities at Legends South A3 can contact the Chicago Housing Authority for application information. Community members are also invited to attend upcoming neighborhood meetings to provide input on the retail spaces planned for the development.
